Lymphedema, or lymphatic swelling, arises as a result of insufficient outflow of lymph from the affected part of the body, we speak of so-called lymphatic insufficiency. During the disease, there is a stagnation of lymph in the lymphatic vessels and subsequently also an accumulation of intercellular fluid in the tissues.
